I'm planning to rent a truck to haul some junk to the landfill, but I've heard that conditions at dumpsites might be risky for rental vehicles. Some folks mentioned things like uneven ground and sharp debris that could damage the truck. Has anyone had experience with this? Is the risk significant enough for me to reconsider my plans, or just be cautious? I'm especially interested in feedback from those who've used U-Haul or similar rentals for this type of job.

Honestly, it depends on the landfill. In my area, they only let you drive on paved paths, so no worries about damaging the truck. You just dump your stuff in designated areas and you're good to go.
I took a U-Haul to a landfill before, and while it was a bit wild, I didn’t have any issues. They had a pretty decent road, and drivers were pretty careful. I'd suggest checking out the area on Google Maps beforehand to see what the access looks like.
I think it really varies. My local dump has a designated area for household waste that keeps you on concrete, but construction debris goes straight to the landfill and that's where you might hit bumps. Just drive slowly and be careful!
