Are Walmart’s Bareroot Plants Worth the Investment?

I recently bought some bareroot plants from Walmart including hostas, bleeding hearts, astilbe, and caladium about a month ago, and followed all the planting instructions. Unfortunately, nothing has sprouted yet. I live in zone 5b and used Miracle Grow Garden Soil. We're managing on a tight budget, so I'm really hoping these plants work out. Has anyone else had experience with Walmart's bareroots?

Honestly, I've had much better experiences buying from places like Etsy. You get healthy roots, and they usually arrive in good condition. Walmart can be hit or miss; I've had some dud experiences over the years. Plus, the clearance plants at Walmart seem to do better for me than the bareroots. Definitely consider shopping elsewhere if you're looking for a guarantee on health and viability.

I've had success with caladium and elephant ear bulbs bought from Sam's Club! Might be better options out there!

I had a similar issue last year when I got bareroots from Walmart; it felt like a flop at first since nothing sprouted. But this year, they surprised me and grew wonderfully! They just needed more time to settle in. Maybe give yours a little longer?

Buying plants from big box stores like Walmart can be a bit unpredictable. I've seen mixed results, but just hang in there. Sometimes it takes a longer time for them to establish before you see any growth. Patience is key!
