I've been dealing with quality control issues with my Woodriver #5 hand plane, which I recently posted about. After receiving advice to return it because the quality shouldn't be this poor for a premium product, I went to Woodcraft. However, when I checked out two more brand new #5s and a #5 1/2, all three had extremely out-of-square blades. The employee agreed that the issues were serious. They said they would contact their manager about a solution. Is this kind of quality common for Woodriver at this price point? I expected better, especially given Cosman's endorsement and the cost.

I've set up a few Woodriver planes for my dad, and they were generally square with only minimal adjustments needed. My concern, though, is their manufacturing in China. While I appreciate their lower price point, it doesn't sit well with me knowing those tools are produced under poor working conditions. I might pay more for an American-made product just for the peace of mind and better quality.
I like shopping at Woodcraft, but Woodriver's product quality can be a letdown compared to their prices. It's weird because the other tools they offer are often solid, so there's an obvious disparity. As for Cosman's endorsement, I wouldn't put too much faith in that anymore.
Honestly, for the price, you'd expect better quality. Woodriver planes should match up to the standards of higher-end brands like Lie Nielsen, but it seems like they may be cutting corners on quality control. It's frustrating to see inconsistency in such a costly tool.
Exactly! It's really hit or miss with them. Some are great, but just as easily, you could end up with a real dud.
