Bathroom Faucet Mixing Up Hot and Cold Water—What Should I Do?

Hey folks! I'm dealing with a quirky problem in my bathroom faucet. When I set it to cold, it gives me hot water instead, and when I switch to hot, cold water flows out for a bit before turning warm again. This happens on both sides of the faucet. Also, when I try to go back to cold, it sometimes takes forever to get any cold water, or it won't come out at all, which is frustrating, especially in summer. I rent my apartment in Germany, so I'm wondering if I should report this to my property management or if it's something I need to sort out myself. Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks!

It sounds like your problem might be linked to a hot water recirculating system if there is one in your building. Those can sometimes create issues like you're describing. You might want to check with your property manager about it, just to be safe!

I think we do have a recirculating system, so that makes sense.

If your faucet worked fine before, it could be a faulty valve that's causing the hot and cold water to mix up. If it’s always been like this, it might be something that predates your tenancy. Generally, these kinds of issues are more on the landlord's side to handle, not yours, so definitely reach out to management!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely drop them a line instead of trying to fix it myself.
