Beginner Gardening: What’s the Best Plant to Start With?

Asked By GardenNinja42 On

I'm totally new to gardening and really excited to try growing something! I'm looking for a beginner-friendly plant I can start right now. I plan to research what I need for whichever plant I choose, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with information. I'm hoping to grow something edible, which sounds really fulfilling. I have a tile area with no real garden space, but I'm considering getting a little greenhouse and I'll be potting in store-bought soil. I'll check the yard's sunlight later on. Any suggestions on what to grow?

Why not try dwarf cherry tomatoes like Tiny Tim or Patio Princess? They're small and perfect for windowsills. Sweet peppers like Californian Wonder are also a fun option to grow alongside them!

I’m definitely checking out the peppers! They sound fun to grow.

You should definitely grow something you enjoy eating! I started off with chillies because they can thrive on a sunny windowsill. Also, herbs are great starter plants; you can find inexpensive kits that give you all the essentials.

Thanks for the advice! Chillies sound awesome, and you've inspired me to look into tomatoes too!

Herbs are the best if you cook a lot. I wouldn’t be without sage, rosemary, and thyme—they’re super hardy. Just remember to plant them a bit later when the risk of frost is gone. Radishes are quick to grow and perfect to start with if you're eager to dive in right away!
