Best #6 x 1¼” Drywall Screws for DIY in Ontario: What’s Your Go-To?

Hey fellow DIYers in Ontario! I'm looking for some advice on purchasing **#6 x 1¼" drywall screws** suitable for fastening ½" board into wood studs. Specifically, I'd love to know:
- Do you typically choose **coarse-thread, phosphate-coated bugle-head screws**?
- Have you experienced any issues with stripping heads or dealing with rust over time?
- For a single-room project, what's the best **box size** (1 lb vs. 5 lb)?
- Where do you usually shop—**Home Depot, RONA, Lowe's, Canadian Tire**—and how do their prices compare?
Thanks for sharing your real-life experiences and tips!

For wood studs, I definitely recommend coarse screws. Honestly, I usually just go to the nearest store, but I’d avoid Canadian Tire if I can help it. I've had no rust issues; if that’s happening, you might want to check your storage conditions! As for box sizes, I think 1 to 2 pounds should work great for a single room. Look for places that sell screws by weight rather than just in boxed packages for a better deal—like Home Hardware or RONA, since some big chains don’t offer that option.

That’s a fantastic breakdown—thank you! When you buy by the pound at places like RONA or Home Hardware, do you notice much difference in screw quality versus the boxed versions at the big chains? Also, do contractors in your area typically prefer buying by the pound, or do they stick with bulk boxes from suppliers?
