I'm working on a project where I'm turning driftwood into a wall decoration. I want to add some color to the wood but still showcase the grain. Has anyone used diluted alcohol dyes or inks for this purpose? I'd love to hear about any brands or experiences you recommend!

Transtint dyes are fantastic! They're soluble in both alcohol and water, so you can mix them however you like. They also layer nicely—just remember to use a sprayed top coat for the first layers. I’ve used them on various woods and they always bring out the grain beautifully!
I often use Artisan shellac-based wood dyes for projects like this. They work well to maintain that beautiful grain while adding color. If you're interested, check it out at the Woodturner's Catalog - they have some great options!
You might want to look at Keda Dye. They offer vibrant colors that really enhance the grain and can be mixed easily with water or alcohol. Perfect for your driftwood project!

Totally agree with you on Transtint! It's super versatile and can be mixed with nearly anything. It's great for getting the effect you want without losing that wood character.
