I'm clearing out some small elm trees in my backyard and want to turn them into wood rounds for coasters, perfect for laser engraving. However, I don't own a bandsaw and can't afford one right now. I was considering a handsaw with a miter box, but I'm looking for easier and more cost-effective methods to achieve this. Any suggestions?

First off, cut the branches into manageable lengths. Make sure to seal the ends with wax or concrete sealer and let them dry properly to avoid cracking. Once dry, you can use whatever tool you have on hand—a miter saw, a crosscut handsaw, or, yes, even a bandsaw when you get the chance! Just remember that if you cut green wood now, it might crack later, so drying is essential.
You've got the right idea with the handsaw option! It might take a bit more elbow grease, especially if the blade isn't sharp, but it definitely can be done. Just be patient with it and keep an eye on the cuts.
