Best and Worst Brands for Beginner Woodworking Tools?

I'm new to woodworking in the UK and have completed a couple of projects with my mitre saw and a few other tools. Now, I'm looking to expand my collection with power tools like a circular saw, a router, and a jigsaw. As a beginner on a budget, I want to make sure I'm investing in quality equipment that will last. I'm curious to hear recommendations on brands that are worth buying from or those I should avoid. I've come across some entry-level brands like Evolution, Titan, and Erbauer, but I have a feeling these might not be the best in terms of quality. Would it be better to go for a second-hand tool from a reputable brand like Makita over a brand new yet less expensive option like Evolution? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

I think of it this way: go for the best tools you can afford because they’ll last you longer. On the flip side, you can buy cheap tools first to see if you actually enjoy the projects without breaking the bank. I miss my Delta table saw and Dewalt tools! Also, Bosch is solid, but repairs can be pricey.

Buying second-hand can definitely be a win, but it might also come with risks. If you don't know how to evaluate used tools, you might end up with something that's nearly worn out. I stick to a mix of the pricey and the cheaper brands. My rule of thumb: if I only need to use it occasionally, I'll go for a less expensive version. If it's something I know I’ll use often, I invest a bit more. Just avoid the absolute cheapest stuff—it usually ends up being unsafe!

I'm based in the US, but I think older, used tools can be great if you do your research. Look for sturdier machines made with cast metal; they usually last longer. New budget tools aren't terrible, but they often compromise on quality and precision. If you have space, invest in a second-hand table saw with a solid body and motor—you can always upgrade the fence later!

I've owned tools from Erbauer, Titan, Einhell, and Makita. Honestly, all are solid for DIY projects! Just find what fits your needs and budget. Don't stress too much about the brand as long as it feels good in your hands.

Honestly, it really depends on what you plan on building. Different folks have different opinions. For example, some swear by DeWalt tools, while others might say it’s not true woodworking unless you’re crafting with hand tools. It can get a bit overwhelming!
