I'm trying to set up a chicken run and need to install some 10 ft 4x4 posts. I'm looking for advice on whether a 6-inch auger would be wide enough for the holes, since it's slightly bigger than the post, but I worry about the walls collapsing or crumbling. I'm hoping to find an auger that can dig at least 3 feet deep for stability. Does anyone have recommendations for a decent auger I can buy, maybe on Amazon?

First, consider your soil type. Are you dealing with rocky soil or is it pretty soft? If you're just digging four holes, a manual auger should do unless you hit rocks. You can check out this one on Ace Hardware—it can handle the job well enough: [Ace Auger Link]. Just make sure to dig deep enough!

After using a post hole digger once, I'm definitely leaning towards a power auger! Just want to make this as smooth as possible.
