Hey everyone, I'm looking to dive into woodworking and need some help choosing a circular saw. I specifically want a battery-powered one, as I find corded options a bit limiting. I plan to start with basic projects like benches and chairs, and possibly tackle some minor home repairs later on. While I'm open to spending money on a good tool, I don't want to overspend on a high-end model since my needs are quite basic. I heard that 7.25-inch blades are common, but I'd love some recommendations on which saws might be best for a newbie like me. Thanks for any tips!

Cordless circular saws are awesome now, but there's still something to be said for corded saws, especially if you're doing heavy cuts. I use a cheap corded skill saw that’s lasted me 30 years! But if you want to go cordless, you might want to consider the battery platform too. Lots of brands have interchangeable batteries, which could save you money in the long run.
If you’re open to exploring options, check out Metabo HPT (formerly Hitachi). Their 36v 7.25" circular saw is top-notch, and the batteries work with 18v tools too. They often have good sales and have a great selection of woodworking tools. This might be the perfect balance between quality and price for your beginner woodworking needs!
I totally understand where you're coming from! Before you jump into a circular saw, have you thought about what other tools you have? If you're starting from scratch, a used table saw might be a better investment. They're great for a variety of cuts, especially if you get a decent miter gauge. Circular saws are more suited for rough cuts, like framing. If space is an issue for you, maybe consider a miter saw for your beginner projects since they’re great for cross cuts.

I have a drill and an impact driver, but that's about it. I want to start with a tool bench and gradually build my skills. I keep hearing that circular saws are super versatile, but maybe a miter saw might be a better fit for my projects, huh?
