Hey everyone! I'm relatively new to maintaining a large yard—it's about an acre and mostly cleared out, but unfortunately, I have a ton of weeds instead of any real grass. I'm looking for cheap ways to kill all the weeds and start fresh. What are some effective methods to tackle this?

Glyphosate is a solid option, but if you're planning to start fresh, fall is the best time to get that going. You should also spend some time improving your soil before then. Good luck!
Mowing the weeds down as short as you can, then covering the area with a thick tarp for about a month is a great way to kill everything off. It’ll breakdown and decompose underneath. And if you get into planting grass, consider some deep-rooting varieties that can stabilize your soil better.
Appreciate it! I’m really trying to manage the onion grass since it’s toxic for my dogs. I plan to try ground cover in a few weeks after letting the pollinators emerge post-frost. Thinking of starting with microclover!
