Best DIY Watering Hacks for Houseplants While You’re Away?

I'm heading out for 2–3 weeks during the summer and I need some practical DIY solutions to keep my houseplants alive. I've got a mix of fussy ones like calatheas and ferns, as well as some easier breeds like snake plants and ZZ plants. I've come across options like water globes, capillary mats, and the classic 'string in a jar' method but would love to hear what actually works in real life. I'm looking for low-cost, low-tech ways to ensure my plants don't turn into a crispy graveyard while I'm gone. Bonus points if you can share photos of your setups!

This is a great chance to lean on your neighbors for help too! Just a little communication can go a long way. Enjoy your trip!

Water globes can be handy, just make sure to fill them properly! But if you want something more reliable, I’d recommend trying the clay cones that draw water from a bucket. We used them during our month-long vacations, and they worked way better than hand-watering. It was a game changer, even if they don’t look the prettiest!

You don't need to stress about your snake plant and ZZ plants, they'll be totally fine on their own! I forgot to water my ZZ for two months over the summer, and it looked great when I got back! But I can’t really help with the more delicate plants like calatheas. Good luck with those! ?
