Best Drill Bit for Ironwood: Need Recommendations

Asked By CuriousCrafter82 On

I'm planning to drill into a Magkuno plank, which is a type of ironwood that has a hardness between 4,450 and 4,500 lbf. I'm wondering if using a carbon steel brad bit at a low speed would do the job. Any suggestions or tips?

You can use pretty much any drill bit to get through ironwood since it's still just wood. Just keep in mind that the tougher the wood, the quicker your bits will dull. If you're only drilling a few holes, you should be fine with a carbon steel bit. Just take it slow and steady!

Just doing 2 holes, so would carbon steel hold up? I just need to go slow, right?
