I've got a huge collection of containers in my backyard that I usually fill with bedding plants, but I'm a bit short on cash this year. I'm considering growing annual flowers from seed since I've had mixed results in the past. What would you recommend as the most reliable annuals to grow from seed in containers? I've already decided on pot marigolds, nasturtiums, and cosmos, but I'd love to hear more suggestions!

Scabiosa stellata 'Ping Pong' and calendula 'Sherbet Fizz' have worked really well for me! They naturally drop seeds, so once you plant them, you'll likely get new ones popping up without any extra work.
Sweet peas can be a fun choice if you have something for them to climb on. Also, check out Limnanthes douglasii (poached egg plant); it’s beautiful and super easy to grow, plus sunflowers are a classic too!
Ah, poached egg plant sounds like a great idea! I'm not sure about the sweet peas though; they might take over the sides of the rack. I'll have to think it through.
You should definitely try a floral meadow mix seed! Just avoid the native mixes; those will flower all the way until November. Moles Seeds has some great options.
Thanks for the tip!
Oh, they both look lovely, thanks!
