Best Electric Sander That Actually Works?

Asked By CraftyNinja92 On

I'm using an electric sander that has metal clips to hold the sanding paper, but I absolutely hate it. The paper never stays in place and I find it frustrating. Does anyone have recommendations for a better sander or tips on how to fix this issue?

What exactly are you sanding? If you're using it a lot and struggling with paper coming loose, you might just have the wrong tool for your projects. For heavy-duty tasks, a belt sander would save you a lot of hassle. Otherwise, for lighter work, an orbital sander could be a better fit.

I get that, but my main issue is that the sheets aren’t staying in the clips, not that I'm oversanding!

If you're using a 1/4 or 1/3 sheet sander, consider switching to a hook and loop backing pad. You can buy larger sheets, cut them down to fit, and attach them with spray adhesive. This way, you'll be able to use hook and loop sanding pads, which hold way better than those clips!

Have you checked out the Festool RS 2 E? It's a solid option, but I understand it's on the pricier side if you’re just doing this as a hobby.
