Best Finishing Options for Garage Cabinets?

Hey everyone! I'm working on building some garage cabinets and I'd like some advice on finishing them. I'm using ACX plywood to save costs instead of birch since it's just for the garage. However, I want to protect the cabinets with a finish. I've seen recommendations for spar varnish, polyurethane, and lacquer. Can anyone share their thoughts on the best finish to use? Any specific brand recommendations? Or do you think it's worth just spending a little more on birch? Thanks in advance!

You might want to go with a sanding sealer first and then apply polyurethane. It gives a nice protective layer while keeping the wood’s natural look. Just make sure to choose a water-based poly for an easier finish!

Honestly, I think painting them white is a great way to go. It helps cover up the plywood look, makes them easy to clean, and reflects light well in the garage. Plus, it's pretty straightforward!

Yeah, that's a solid choice! Just remember to use a good primer first for the best results.

I considered it too but I really want to maintain the natural wood appearance.
