Best Flooring Options for a 90s Home Renovation?

I'm considering buying a home built in the 90s, but I'm not a fan of the carpet that's currently in every room. I'm thinking about replacing it with a hard surface, but I'm unsure. Is Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) a good option, or does it come across as too cheap? I see it used a lot but feel like it has a plastic-like feel to it. I'd prefer hardwood if I could handle it as a DIY project, though I've never done it before. I know there are laminate and engineered wood options as well. What do you all recommend for this kind of situation? I'm looking at covering around 1000 square feet on each of 2-3 floors, depending on what I decide for the basement.

Honestly, LVP is not great—it’s just a cheap alternative and far from traditional. If you can afford hardwood in a few rooms, you can always add more later since you can use the same wood species for a seamless look. For basements, think about porcelain tiles with area rugs, depending on the moisture situation.
