I recently crafted a charcuterie serving board using redwood, and I intentionally charred it until it turned black. Afterward, I brushed it with a stiff brush and wiped it down with a damp cloth, so it looks pretty clean now and free of ash. Since I'm only planning to use it as a serving board and won't be cutting on it, I'm looking for recommendations on how to ensure it's fully cleaned and what kind of food-safe finish would work best for it. Any advice?

Finishing a charred serving board can be a bit tricky! Normally, I'd suggest a wax or oil finish, but with charred wood, the char particles might interfere and degrade the finish over time. If you can guarantee that you won't use it for cutting, I'd recommend a layer of food-safe epoxy. It really helps protect the charred look instead of letting it wear off over time.
Yeah, I totally get it! Food-safe epoxy sounds weird, but it's actually legit and can keep that charred appearance intact much longer than oil. Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully for application.
