Best Full-Sun Perennials for Midwest Gardens

I'm planning my first serious garden this year and want to make it beautiful! I have a spot along the side of my garage that gets full sun, located in Iowa. There are plenty of wildlife like squirrels, birds, rabbits, and groundhogs around, and my dog might occasionally urinate on the plants. What are some strong and easy perennials you recommend? I particularly love hydrangeas, but I'm open to other options!

There are quite a few factors to consider when looking for easy plants. Hydrangeas can be tricky; they come in different types and each has its own pruning needs. I find lavender and blanket flowers to be more straightforward if you're looking for something easy to maintain! That's just my two cents.

If you're looking for easy growers, I'd recommend trying black-eyed Susans and echinacea—they thrive like crazy and look gorgeous too! Also, check out Penstemon digitalis, Coreopsis verticillata, and Allium. They're all solid choices for your garden!
