Best Indoor Plants for a Cat-Friendly Setup

I'm planning to place a ladder bookcase in front of a window that gets a good amount of morning sun. I want to grow some herbs and maybe even a few other plants in this setup, but I need your thoughts on what might work well or any precautions I should take. Additionally, I have cats that might be tempted to nibble on my plants. I'm thinking of starting with basil, mint, and cilantro, and I might add rosemary, sage, thyme, lettuce, and possibly some berries like strawberries or blueberries. Any suggestions?

Make sure you have enough direct sunlight for your plants! Most of the herbs you mentioned thrive with at least 6-8 hours of full sunlight. You may also need supplemental lighting if the window isn’t bright enough. Just a heads up that some herbs like basil can be a bit finicky without ideal light conditions, but they can survive in bright window spots if you're attentive!

I've had basil in a sunny window without added light, and it's done alright for a few months, but it was tough love for sure! Just keep an eye on it.

Consider that not all plants will thrive indoors, especially when it comes to fruiting plants like strawberries. They usually need more than just regular light and require specific conditions to grow well. If you're looking to grow herbs, they should do alright as long as they get the light they need. Also, you might want to plant some grasses for your cats to munch on to keep them away from your other herbs!

That's a great idea! Maybe I'll get a spider plant for the window too. Cats usually love those!
