Hey everyone! I've got a 5x10m pebbled patch in my garden that faces south and is quite exposed, located in NW England. It's not used for parking anymore, but mainly serves as a cat litter spot at the moment. I'm looking to convert it back into a garden space but need a zero-maintenance solution. Lawn isn't an option, as I prefer container gardening now. I want to find no-fuss plants suitable for my area's weather, which is mostly rainy and windy with the occasional warm spell in summer. Check out Beth Chatto's gravel garden for inspiration! It used to be a car park and has plenty of ideas for low-maintenance plants. While it’s drier in Essex compared to your area, it could still spark some good ideas for your garden.
Honestly, if you're looking for a hands-off option, plastic plants might be the most maintenance-free choice. But if you're open to some low-maintenance solutions, consider creating raised beds with small, slow-growing shrubs like spindle, mixed in with sedum and ferns. You could use the pebbles as paths between the beds for a neat look.
