Hey everyone! I've been a DIY auto mechanic for over 25 years, and I'm finally transitioning from hand tools to cordless power tools to make my life a bit easier. I just picked up the M12 fuel drill/driver combo, which came with a free 3/8" ratchet. Now I'm considering getting the 3/8" stubby as well. I'm curious—if you could only choose one additional ratchet to pair with the stubby for general maintenance and repairs, what would you recommend? I might think about getting a 1/2" tool in the future for tougher jobs, but for now, I just want something versatile for lighter-duty stuff. Appreciate your insights, especially since I'm new to cordless tools!

If you’re looking for one solid addition, the Insider is awesome! It’s the only M12 tool I have, and I wish I'd gotten it sooner. Great for various tasks without being too bulky.
I'd steer clear of the high-speed ratchets—they're really more suited for assembly lines than for mechanics. I've got the 3/8” stubby and a high-torque ratchet, and honestly, I hardly ever use the high-torque. The stubby has been great for my needs. As for the impact ratchet, it's handy at times, but if you’re not working on specific vehicles that need it, I wouldn’t prioritize that. It's mostly about personal preference and the types of projects you tackle.
Totally agree! I’ve worked by hand for years too, and having that feel for fasteners helps a ton. I usually get better results without risking over-torquing.
You can't go wrong with the Insider and the 3/8 Gen 2 stubby combo. They complement each other perfectly for most DIY jobs. You might consider the M18 high torque later on if you want to tackle some heavy-duty stuff down the line!

I see your point! I do a lot of work on small equipment, and I find my 1/4" and 3/8" high-speed ratchets super helpful. It really depends on your typical projects!
