Best Materials for Building Face Frames on a Bookshelf?

Asked By CraftyHiker42 On

I'm currently working on a built-in bookshelf with plywood, and I'm trying to figure out what material to use for the face frames. Will 1x2 poplar work, or should I consider something else? I want something that can effectively hide the plywood edges.

Poplar is definitely a solid choice for face frames. If you have a table saw, you might want to buy larger 3/4 boards and rip them to size for a bit of savings. But since poplar is pretty inexpensive, either way works fine!

I don’t have a table saw though; I'm just using a circular saw with a Kreg rip cut! That might change things a bit.
