Best Method for Fixing Drywall Damage from Command Strips?

Asked By CuriousCat42 On

I'm getting my room ready for painting but ran into a problem while removing some 3M Command strips. Unfortunately, instead of a clean removal, I ended up pulling off a layer of drywall. I've seen some recommendations for Zinsser BIN but I'm not sure if that's the right choice. Should I go for the spray version or the brush-on one for such a small area? It's about a 2-inch spot I'm dealing with.

Honestly, any oil-based primer in a spray can should do the trick for your problem. It's a quick and easy solution! Just make sure you follow the instructions on the can for the best results.

It seems like you have a little dent in the wall from the damage. I'd recommend spackling and sanding that area down before you apply primer. I haven't tried spray primer myself, but if that’s what you prefer, go for it! However, picking up a quart of Zinsser might give you more value, especially if you have other painting projects in mind.

So just to clarify, after cleaning up the loose paper, I should use the Shellac Primer first, then spackle and sand, right? Should I stick with spackle or is mud okay too?
