Best Method for Making a Cutting Board: Tips Needed!

Asked By CraftyBuilder42 On

I recently posted about my project to create a cutting board, and I'd love some more guidance. I'm considering building a router sled to help flatten it, but I'm wondering if there are simpler alternatives. Also, what's the best technique for cutting thin strips using a circular saw? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you're looking to flatten your cutting board, the easiest method would be to use a thickness planer. It makes things super simple. For cutting thin strips with a circular saw, I recommend getting an edge guide. You can find some at Rockler, or even grab a more affordable option at Harbor Freight. Just a heads up, using one effectively does take a bit of practice!

Just a circular saw, router, and orbital sander here!

I don’t have a thickness planer, though.

I totally get you on the thickness planer, they can be pricey! But without one, it might be a bit limiting for achieving that perfectly flat surface you want. Just try to get it as close as possible, and then finish it up with some sanding.
