I'm working on a bathroom project where I need to cut some thin, long hexagonal tiles measuring 3 1/2 inches by 7/8 inches. I have a wet saw available, but I'm feeling a bit nervous about cutting the tiles in half lengthwise since it requires getting my fingers too close to the blade. We've also tried manual tile cutters, but they're too bulky for such small pieces. I'm in a bit of a rush to finish this week so any suggestions on how to cut these tiles safely would be greatly appreciated!

If your wet saw has a sliding foam-padded table, that could help. I had some trouble with narrow cuts on glass mosaics, but I found that using a thin HDPE cutting board from Walmart made a big difference. Just be careful when you're close to the blade—it shouldn't be too grabby.
You might want to consider making a wooden jig to hold your tile in place while you cut it. This can also serve as a guide to help keep your cuts straight, especially since the pieces you’re working with are so narrow.
Building a better jig can definitely help. If the one you made lifted the tile, it might need adjustments to better secure the piece. Maybe use clamps to hold it down while cutting!

That's a good idea! I might just try that foam-padded table with the cutting board.
