Best Methods for Removing Old Adhesive from a Window

I need some strong recommendations for removing adhesive from my window where I've mounted an air conditioner for the past five years. I really want to get my security deposit back, and the regular stuff like Goo Gone hasn't worked for me. I'm looking for something powerful, perhaps even a bit harsh, to tackle this sticky situation. As a nurse, I've got all the safety gear like masks and gloves ready to go. I've got $1300 on the line, so any advice would be appreciated!

Zippo fluid could also work well. Just let it soak for a while before making a move to scrape off the adhesive. It really helps break down the sticky stuff.

I’ll definitely give that a go! Thanks for the tip!

WD-40 is a solid choice too! It dissolves the adhesive nicely, although you'll likely need some elbow grease to scrape the non-adhesive part. I wouldn't recommend carb cleaner, though; it can strip paint. If you've got caulk or silicone, you'll just have to get comfortable with scraping. Unfortunately, there's no easy way around that.

You should look into Unisolve adhesive remover pads. They're fantastic for removing leftover adhesive, especially from medical supplies. Just rub it on, and it works quickly to break down the gunk. After that, a quick wipe with Windex or a household cleaner should do the trick.

You might want to try using denatured alcohol. Soak the adhesive for a bit and then carefully scrape it off with a plastic scraper. It's usually pretty effective without causing damage.
