Best Options for Starting a Compost Heap in Your Garden?

I'm gearing up for mowing season and thinking about starting one or two compost heaps for my large garden. I've seen a variety of ideas like plastic bins, recycled pallets, and just dumping everything in a pile. What methods are you guys using for composting? Any recommendations?

For a compact space, I use wheelie bins to compost, which keeps things tidy. But if you have the space, I’d recommend going with a multi-bay pallet system. It allows for great airflow and is quite simple to set up! Check out this example I found online—it really helps manage the compost efficiently!

I constructed my composting system using an old shed. If you don’t have a shed, pallets are the way to go! They’re free or cheap, super easy to build, and they promote good airflow. Honestly, there’s no need to invest in a plastic composter!

So, is airflow the key factor for a good compost? I’ve heard mixing greens and browns is important, too. Do you turn the compost often or just leave it be?
