I'm in southern Maine and I'm trying to figure out the best solution for my sump pump discharge line. Currently, I have a PVC pipe running out of the foundation with a freeze guard, leading into a 10-foot black flexible plastic pipe. Unfortunately, this spot is also where our snow is plowed in winter, which has been milder lately but still results in a snow pile that lasts until late spring. I'm thinking that an underground extension might be ideal, but I'm worried about freezing. The area available for the extension is about 20 feet and it's flat with no slope. How deep does the pipe need to be buried, and what's the frost line around here? Is it possible to have the pipe exit at the surface? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar setup, and what worked for me was extending the pipe further away and ensuring there was a good slope for drainage. However, going underground can be tricky due to rocks and roots, so you might want to weigh your options carefully.
It sounds like you're facing a tough situation with that snow pile right where you need to redirect the water. Have you thought about simply adjusting your plowing? If you could move the snow to another area, it might alleviate the freezing issue.
That's a good point, but unfortunately, I can only plow to that specific area. It's either that or not at all, given the layout of the property.

I appreciate the tip! The flat area I have is definitely an issue, and I can't extend much further without risking more freezing. It's frustrating!
