Best Paint Stripper for Unprimed Kitchen Cabinets?

Hey everyone! This is my first post here. We moved into our house four years ago and had a painter do a lot of work, including painting the cabinets on our kitchen island. Recently, I've noticed the paint on the island is peeling off super easily—if you even touch it lightly, it just comes right off! We're getting ready to sell our home, and I need to completely remove the remaining paint quickly. One big worry I have is that the cabinets underneath are grey, and I don't want to ruin them with whatever product I use, especially since a photographer is coming in just five days. Can anyone recommend the gentlest paint stripper for this situation? I'm located in the US, which might impact product availability. Thanks a ton for any advice!

It sounds like you might have a tough time finding a chemical stripper that only removes that top layer of paint. Whatever method you choose, it’s likely you’ll need to repaint the cabinets afterwards anyway.

They probably used latex over a thermofoil or lacquer. You could try using a hair dryer or a heat gun on a low setting, keeping it at a distance. This could help loosen the bond enough for the paint to peel off in larger strips.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I’m going to give the hair dryer method a shot and see how it goes. Cross your fingers for me!
