Hey everyone! I just wrapped up the stonework on my front walk and stairs (check out the pic!), and I'm ready to install the handrails. My original plan was to have straight handrails on the outside of the pillars to keep the space feeling open, especially since I even widened the stairs for that. However, someone pointed out that putting the handrails outside the pillars means you'll have to let go of the handrail when reaching the top step, which doesn't seem safe. I'd prefer not to install straight handrails inside the pillars because it makes the area feel cramped and detracts from the look I want. Any suggestions on how to approach this? I'm planning to use white PVC rails to match the trim of the house. Thanks in advance!

How about going for a thin metal handrail? It can fit neatly inside the column without being too noticeable. Something like the design I found could work really well!
