Best Plants for a Shade-to-Sun Corner in a Clay Garden?

Hi everyone! I'm located in Southeast UK and I've got this tricky area in my garden where I need to plant something that thrives in partial shade in the morning and then gets full hot sun in the afternoon. The soil here is heavy clay, which complicates things a bit. I've considered using Hydrangeas, but I've heard they're not ideal for my situation. Can anyone suggest some perennial and colorful plants or shrubs that might work well in this corner? Thanks a lot!

I've got a similar situation, and the only plant that has survived there is coleus! It's not really floral or perennial, but it brings some vibrant colors to the space. Just a heads up, though, it's pretty susceptible to slugs, which is a concern in that spot.

Yeah, slugs are a big problem in my garden, too! I'll have to think about that before I decide.

You might want to try Japanese kerria! I planted one in a similar spot with poor soil conditions, and it’s been flourishing. It's currently blooming with bright yellow flowers and has doubled in size since I planted it last year. Not sure how big your corner is, but it’s been a great addition for me!

That sounds perfect, especially since I have a bit of space against a fence panel. I’ll definitely check it out!

What do you think about shasta daisies? They could brighten up your garden!

They do sound lovely, but I'm not sure about their ability to handle heavy clay. I thought they might need better drainage.
