I've got this part of my yard where absolutely nothing seems to grow—it's totally in the shade. Not even the shade grass can make it! ? I'm on the hunt for some plants that can thrive in this dark spot. Ideally, I want them to stay under 1 foot tall so they won't trap moisture against the siding of my house. I'm open to almost anything as long as it isn't rocks!

For a quick fix, some types of ferns would work well! Ostrich ferns could fit the bill, plus they look pretty cool. Also, if you’re located east of the Mississippi, woodland phlox is a fantastic option. Tiarella (foamflower) and Heuchera (coral bells) are lovely too! They stay low and vibrant.
You have plenty of great options for a shadowy spot! I’d recommend ferns, astilbe, hostas, hellebores, may apples, toad lilies, or hakka grass. My shade garden turned out to be one of my favorite spots, and it's amazing how many beautiful plants can thrive in low light! Just give one or two a try, and you might be surprised by what you can grow!
If you're looking for something a bit different, have you considered wild ginger? It's a lovely, underused shade plant that can really enhance that dark area without taking up too much space.
That sounds interesting! I haven’t heard of wild ginger before—definitely looking it up!

Totally agree with the woodland phlox! They're gorgeous and thrive in shade!
