I've got a beautiful Echeveria 'Perle von Nurnberg' (PVN) that my daughter loves too. I managed to propagate a baby plant from a mother leaf that's just starting to show roots. Since my daughter will be moving across the country for college in September, I want to send the little PVN with her. My concern is the potting—whatever pot I choose will probably be the permanent home for this plant for years to come unless I sneak in a repotting during visits. I've read that succulents like to be a bit root-bound and prefer smaller pots, but I've also seen info stating that PVN can grow fairly quickly among succulents. So I'm wondering, once the baby is ready, should I start with a snug 2-inch pot, or go with a larger size that will last longer? I can 3D print pots of any size up to 6 inches in diameter, and she'll have family helping her with care, so dorm life won't complicate things too much.

I totally get that! Crafting pots is a fun way to personalize things. It sounds like you've got a solid grasp on designing them. Just make sure the pot has some drainage. Echeveria is quite forgiving, but keeping it in a snug pot helps it thrive. Can't wait to see how your Portal-themed pot turns out!
That's such a sweet idea! If your daughter is equipped to care for the plant, I'd suggest starting with a 3 or 4-inch pot but keeping it shallow. If you think she might need extra help, then a 2-inch pot could be a good starting point. Can I check out your printed pots?
