Best Practices for Laying Cinderblocks Under a Modular Home

Hi everyone! I'm working on a project to replace the skirting on my 1976 modular home with cinderblocks. I think it looks nicer and it'll help keep pests out. My plan is to set up 4-foot sections of rebar in each column every 6 feet (since my home is 64 feet long and 24 feet wide) and pour concrete for extra stability along with the rebar. However, I'm a bit stuck on what to do with the gaps between the house and the cinderblocks. Any advice or tips I might be missing would be greatly appreciated!

Have you thought about using wood paneling instead? This approach could make it easier to access the area beneath your home for repairs if needed. Just a thought!

True, but I could always install a door to the area.

Yeah, considering how cost-effective the blocks are, it makes sense!

What will you set the cinderblocks on? If you're not stacking them for support, adding flashing from under the siding to the top of the blocks is usually the best route to take.

I'm planning on putting them on a 2" concrete slab with some steel grating. I really want to make sure no pests get in!

Using rebar and concrete might be overdoing it a bit. It’s crucial to have a good footing and to bolt the house to the ground. Also, don’t forget to leave a door for accessing under the home, and maybe consider putting 2x6s on top of the blocks for added stability.

Bolting? I have this vent thing going on; I just want to keep my place well-insulated and pest-free! Sorry if I sound clueless; I'm more of a machinist type than a construction guru.
