I'm planning to skim coat my popcorn ceiling in my condo, which has a concrete ceiling beneath the popcorn texture. I'm having trouble deciding on the best product to use for this project. Can anyone share their recommendations or experiences?

Make sure to consider the age of your condo. Check if there's any asbestos in the popcorn ceiling before doing anything. If it’s not asbestos and comes off easily, I suggest wetting it down with a spray bottle and scraping it off completely before applying a layer of Sheetrock joint compound. Depending on how your ceiling looks, you might need several coats or just a light skim. If it’s heavily textured, you might want to think about simply adding a thin layer of Sheetrock on top.
For your project, I recommend using drywall mud and thinning it out with water until it has a consistency that allows it to slump off your knife a bit. It should work well for skim coating over your popcorn ceiling!
Before you start, are you planning to scrape off the popcorn texture first or just skim over it? If you decide to skim over, that can save you time since the popcorn looks good. Just wanted to check!
I'm going to go over it since the popcorn is in good condition and it will save me some time.

Thanks, I'll be trying that out!
