Best Quick-Drying Oil and Wax Finish for Walnut in the UK?

Asked By CraftyJoe83 On

I'm searching for a quick-drying oil and wax finish specifically for walnut frames that I create. Right now, I'm using Chesnut lemon oil followed by Bison wax, but I'm finding it tough to work with longer drying finishes like Osmo. I'm even considering switching back to Danish oil. Are there any other products or recommendations available from UK suppliers that dry quickly?

I've used British Gilboys hard wax oils while in the States. They're decent, especially for low-traffic items. Danish oil does provide a bit more protection, but it’s definitely more work to apply.

Check out Treatex hardwax oil! I’ve seen a woodturner in the UK using it, and he sells it through turnersworkshop.co.uk. I’m not sure about the drying times, but it might be worth checking out! How fast do you need it to dry, by the way?

I'm really tight on time—ideally, I need to get them dried and shipped within 24 hours!

If you’re considering something that dries faster than Danish oil, you may want to try hardwax with a catalyst. It can be dry in about 24 hours and fully cured in a week. For super quick options, shellac or a catalyzed finish might be your best bet.
