Hey everyone! I'm a newbie to woodworking and I'm currently making a pipe as a gift for a friend using purpleheart wood. I'm on the hunt for a good exterior sealant that will help prevent greying and protect the wood from moisture. The challenge is finding a product that offers both UV resistance and is food safe. I'm also aiming for a satin finish. If anyone has suggestions, even if it means using a combination of products, I'd really appreciate your insights!

Just a heads-up, don’t expect your purpleheart to keep its vibrant color for long—even with a finish, it tends to turn brown fairly quickly. But you can still seal it to protect against moisture and wear.
I’ve worked with different woods, and for a durable finish on your purpleheart pipe, look into using a food-safe epoxy resin that offers UV protection. You can also follow up with some carnauba wax for that satin look! Just make sure to let the resin cure completely before using it.

Thanks for the tip! I was thinking of going the resin route. Do you know if the resin you mentioned holds up well against heat from smoking?
