I'm looking for recommendations on slim, column-like evergreen trees suitable for the Mid-Atlantic states. I've tried the Italian cypress, but it didn't survive the first bad freeze. I'm considering either a blue arrow shrub or a blue skyrocket tree, but I'd love to hear suggestions for alternatives. Ideally, I need something that stays no wider than 3 feet.

Have you considered using Emerald Green Arborvitae? They're a popular choice and can handle the colder weather. They do get about 4 feet wide, but some folks have had success trimming them back to fit their space better. Just keep an eye on how you prune them!
If you're looking for something that doesn't take up much space, blue arrow shrubs could be a solid choice! They stay compact and have a nice color. Just make sure whatever you choose is suitable for your specific garden conditions.
Trautman junipers might be a good substitute for cypress in colder areas. They’re pretty hardy and can maintain a slim profile, plus they add nice texture to the landscape! Definitely worth considering.

I see they get 4 foot wide; can they be cut back? Thanks!
