Best Small Woodstove Options for a Tiny Workshop?

My wife and I are getting ready to retire in about a year and a half, and we're moving to Maine. I'll have a small 14x12 workshop to work in. I know it's a tight space, but I'm looking for recommendations on a small woodstove. It seems like a good idea to burn unusable scraps to keep warm, but of course, I want to make sure it's safe. Any suggestions?

Congrats on retiring in Maine! For such a small workshop, I’d recommend considering the space you'll need to keep clear around the stove for safety. If you’re into hand tools and can manage without a bigger stove, a small Scandia or any heavy cast iron stove rated for around 900 sq ft might work well for you. Just be mindful that a wood stove can take up valuable space, especially when you need to ensure safety around it.

Totally understand the need for heat, especially in that winter chill! If space is tight, you've got some lightweight options like tent camping stoves or small can/rv stoves, but they're not always the sturdiest. If you're transitioning to hand tools, those heavier cast iron stoves are built to last and will definitely keep your workshop warm.
