Best Soil for Succulents That Retains Some Moisture?

Hey folks! I'm trying to figure out which soil is best for my succulents to help them retain some moisture without overdoing it. I have some tiny pots sitting on a window shelf, and they seem to dry out daily. I'd like to find a solution where I only need to water them once a week. Would using something like tropical soil mixed with mulch work? Or maybe vermiculite? I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks a bunch!

Cactus potting soil works great for succulents! It’s okay for it to dry out completely between waterings. Honestly, I only give mine a drink about once a month and they do just fine.

Same here! My plants are super happy with less frequent watering.

Yep, less fuss makes them thrive!

You probably want a soil mix that dries quickly. Succulents don't like sitting in wet soil, especially in small pots. Instead of adding moisture-retaining properties, try a 1:1 mix of grit and regular potting soil to help everything drain well. If you're worried about hydration, soaking the pot every now and then can really help!

Exactly! My plants thrive when I give them a good soak and then let them dry out.

Right! Better to have them slightly dry than risk root rot.

I had this issue with my haworthia too! Instead of changing the soil, I just moved it to a larger pot. It really helped with the watering frequency! Sometimes a pot change is all you need to make a difference.
