Best Solar Setup for Charging My Nissan Leaf?

I'm looking to set up a ground-mounted solar array with an inverter and batteries to charge my Nissan Leaf. I'm comfortable with trickle charging (level 1). Although I already have a level 2 charger connected to the grid, I'm eager to embark on a project that's both fun and cost-effective. I can procure solar panels, potentially from Craigslist, but I need guidance on choosing the right inverter and batteries. Would it be better to use a portable battery that connects to the solar panels? Also, I would appreciate it if someone could provide a basic schematic and information on the necessary electrical components. If this topic has been discussed elsewhere, please direct me there!

I've been using two MPP LV2424 inverters and a ton of batteries. I manage to get around 15 miles worth of charging per day for my Ford Lightning. Once I acquire more solar panels and optimize my setup, I expect to see better results. Just keep in mind; there’s not much ROI if you're off-grid like me—it's mainly for fun and backup power! Make sure you have enough panels to charge the batteries fully during the day if you want to power your EV at night. Be prepared for some energy losses though!

I bought 6 used 250-watt Canadian Solar panels for just 20 bucks each, and I set up a DIY LiFePO4 battery pack at 24v with a couple of charge controllers and a pure sine wave inverter. It usually takes around 2 days to charge the batteries fully, which gives me enough energy to add about 10% to my EV's charge after plugging it in for 7 hours. It’s not only helping out with my EV but also serves as a backup during power outages!

Consider getting a hybrid inverter, like the EG4. While trickle charging works, you'll save more energy and time using a level 2 charger since there are fewer losses at that speed. Aim for 48v batteries too. Plus, financially, it makes more sense to set up a complete home solar system instead of just one for the car. It could be more efficient in the long run!
