Best Spray Adhesive for Gluing Fabric to Wood?

Asked By CraftyNinja42 On

Hey everyone! I'm working on a little project where I need to glue felt to the bottom of a chessboard. I previously attempted using wood glue, but it warped the wood even with a heavy weight on top. I've heard that spray adhesive might be a better option, but I'm concerned about potential warping and how well the felt will stick. Any recommendations or tips? Thanks!

Absolutely, 3M Super 77 is fantastic for this kind of job. It’s designed for bonding fabric and it holds up really well. Just a tip: once you spray it, make sure to align the felt properly because it grabs fast!

Good to know! I’ll definitely give it a try. Thanks for the advice!

Definitely avoid water-based adhesives if you're worried about wood swelling. Contact cement is another solid option, and it’s commonly used for tambour doors. It'll give you a strong bond without the warping!

I’ve used a spray adhesive for felt on smaller projects like coasters, and they stay pretty flat. I usually spray the glue on the felt and apply weight afterward. For spray adhesive, I go with Gorilla Glue—works great! Just ensure you check what’s available at your local hardware stores before deciding.

Thanks for sharing your method! I’m really looking for something that won’t warp, and your approach sounds promising.
