Best Table Saw Blades for Different Cuts?

Asked By WoodWhisperer23 On

I've been using my table saw for about a year and a half, but I just realized that my track saw delivers much cleaner cuts. I'm curious about what makes a good general-use table saw blade. Should I be using separate blades for different types of cuts? What do I need to know about table saw blades to get the most out of my saw, which is a 3 HP Harvey model?

If you're using a Harvey saw, I'd highly recommend getting Forrest blades. I have the Woodworker II and a couple of them so I can keep one sharp while using the other. You might also want to check out Woodpeckers for some new options, but I enjoy the mail-in sharpening service from Forrest!

For versatility, I stick with Ridge Carbide blades—they're great! I've got one on my table saw and my miter saw too. But if you're looking for an all-rounder, consider Freud and Tenryu for sharpenable options. Keep your blades clean too, a good cleaning solution makes all the difference!

I've used a similar cleaning solution before, and it's amazing how much smoother the cuts become!

It really depends on what you're cutting. Ideally, you'd have a dedicated blade for crosscuts and another for ripping. If you're switching between different cuts a lot, a combination blade can be a great option, though it won't excel at either. Remember, if you're working with plywood, look for blades designed to reduce tear-out! Also, consider the tooth count based on what you're cutting—lower tooth counts for construction lumber and higher for finer wood. There's a lot to learn about tooth profiles, so definitely give that a Google!

I'm currently building a Murphy bed with Birch plywood, and I noticed the difference when working on maple trim!

CMT blades are fantastic quality and reasonably priced! I've switched to CMT for my table saw, and it really makes a huge difference. They operate much quieter too; I have the Chrome line 24 tooth ripping blade and a 40/50 tooth combo blade, and I love them!

Good blades really can change your entire experience. CMTs are my favorites as well!

Totally agree! They definitely cut down on vibration, which helps with a smoother finish.
