I'm new to woodworking and have some large stacks of thin exotic veneer that I'm looking to cut for art projects. One person suggested using a Zona-Dovetail Saw with 18 TPI, while another very experienced woodworker told me to just use a good utility knife with a retractable blade, making sure to have a fresh blade. Which method do you all think is better for cutting these veneers? Thanks for any advice!

It really comes down to how thick your veneer is. If it’s very thin, like under 1/40", the utility knife is your best bet. You should be able to cut it with just a few passes; if you're struggling after that, definitely switch to a saw. A saw might splinter the edges too much. Also, if you're diving into marquetry, look up some tutorials—they'll help you figure out the best glue types and cutting techniques!

Thanks for the tips! I'm trying to incorporate these thin pieces into jewelry with other materials, and I want everything to look clean and professional. Sanding against a block sounds like a great idea to finish the edges!
