I'm working on a project where I need to cut a rabbet measuring 1" by 3" into a 20-foot 2x6. I'm looking for suggestions on the best tools and methods to do this safely, especially since I'll be working alone. Any tips on how to manage this?

Using a router with an edge guide is another solid option. It's easier to maneuver the router than the lumber when you're dealing with something as long as 20 feet. Just like with the table saw, be careful and think about rigging a support system or having a buddy help out. Going for multiple passes is definitely the way to go here.
Another idea is to get a router bit specifically for this kind of cut. Something like a 3-inch router bit can help you achieve the right depth. Just remember to take it slow and don't go full depth all at once; multiple passes will give you a cleaner finish!
A table saw would be your best bet for this job. Just be sure to set up a support system, or even better, find a helper to assist you, as handling long pieces of lumber can be tricky. Also, consider making multiple passes instead of trying to cut it all at once.
