Hey everyone! I'm currently working on a project that needs some long and thick wood shavings, preferably uniform in size. I'm trying to figure out what type of wood and which planer I should use to achieve the best results. Any suggestions or advice would be really helpful!

The key to getting those long, thick shavings is to use a really sharp hand planer. Just make sure you're planing with the grain because going against it can cause tear-out and lead to shorter pieces. Also, avoid using woods that have irritating oils or might be toxic to your project.
I suggest going for a closed pore wood like maple, cherry, or walnut. They tend to hold up better for shavings compared to oak, which can be a bit unstable due to its looser grain. Straight pine could be a decent option too!
Definitely choose wood that has the straightest grain possible. It's a simple tip, but it's super effective for achieving uniform shavings!
