Best Way to Attach Rope to Metal for a Cat Scratcher?

I'm trying to transform my table legs into a cat scratcher using jute rope. I initially tried hot glue, but it just pops off the metal surface with minimal pressure. I'm looking for a reliable adhesive that's also safe for cats. Any tips or alternatives to hot glue would be awesome!

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend using glue at all. Instead, check out this helpful video I found on wrapping techniques. It shows a way to wrap the rope tightly around the leg without needing glue at all. It might take a bit of practice to get it right, but it’s totally worth it!

If you're looking for adhesive options, contact cement could work well for your project. Another option people often mention is 'Shoe Goo' which can be very effective on non-porous surfaces like metal.

To get a strong bond, make sure the metal is clean and free from any wax or finish that might interfere. Epoxy is a great option for this. Alternatively, you might want to wrap the rope tightly around the legs instead of gluing it. For example, start at the top, wrap it down and up, and then tie it off at the top where it's less likely to be pulled by your cat.
