Hey everyone! I'm currently building a coffee table using a live edge piece of wood. The top is nice and flat, but the bottom is slightly curved, which is making it tricky to attach my 4 oblique metal legs. I'm looking for advice on how to chisel out grooves to secure these legs at different points while keeping everything level. I do have a router, but I'm worried there isn't enough flat surface on the bottom for a clean cut. Any suggestions on how I can tackle this?

One approach could be to get the slab planed to even out the bottom surface. Once you have a level base, you can easily use the router or chisel to create your grooves at the correct depth. It might take a little extra work, but it’ll help ensure everything is flush.
Yeah, I get that. If your wood was warped, flattening it out can be tricky. If you're concerned about removing more material, you might try just leveling the areas where the legs will attach.
Since you have a router, consider making or buying a router flattening jig. It can help flatten the spots where the legs will go. Just turn your slab upside down and use the jig to create even depths for the leg attachments. It’s super effective if done right!

You could also set the table up above the legs, keeping everything spaced out and level. Measure the height difference from the legs to the tabletop and then adjust your router or chisels based on those measurements. Just make sure to pick the deepest point for consistency!
